Using tainted Kerosene in a kerosene heater?

Ok, I have a kerosene heater. My friend recently gave me an additional empty 5 gallon kerosene jug. The problem is, this 5 gallon can previously had diesel fuel in it. I know mixing combustible gas and kerosene is a big no no.
My question - if I wash out the jug with soap and hot water, and let it sit and dry out thoroughly for about a week, will it be ok to put in my heater? Any other methods to clean it? Please advise.
