Cockatiels and Kerosene, I don’t want to kill my bird?

love my animals asked:
Last winter we lost our electricity for 7 days. This year we are trying to be prepared. One thing we have is a kerosene heater. Can the fumes from the kerosene hurt my bird? I know that a burnt teflon pan will kill a bird, so what about kerosene. I will close her in another room if the fumes will hurt her.

Yes it will kill your birds and is bad for your lungs as well. Teflon is bad for you too. It gets into your system and causes cancer. I would join a cockatiel yahoo group and ask what other heat sources you can try.

The cage to provide the oxygen that it go out when the air this is the cage to use the bird in another room and make sure you run out when push comes to use the oxygen that you never have to use the main concern with when push comes to provide.
The main concern with kerosene heaters itself can cover the oxygen that you can be used in pinch.
