how to remove soot stains from walls (kerosene heater)?

So I am new at the kerosene heater thing and I had it lit and didn’t check the kerosene level, well it was empty and pouring out smoke. Turns out that I was burning the wick…house filled with smoke…and I thought, no big deal. Heres the problem…When I was cleaning the windows today, I accidentally sprayed cleaner on the wall. Then I wiped it only to find a 100% clean spot….unknowingly, the smoke had like stuck to everything in the house….including walls. When I used windex on my door frames, the stains would somewhat come off and then there are streaks. I found out that the windex was making the paint sticky and the smoke was like sticking to it….now it won’t come off with anything….I don’t want to make that mistake with the walls and have to re-paint everything….so I am wondering what to wash my walls with to take this off…I was told spic and span by my grandfather who occassionally washes his walls because he smokes in his house….lowes said as long as it doesn’t have ammonia (ex: windex)……so even though I got this advice…I am wanting to check because smoke nicotine might be a bit different than the smoke from a keronese heater wick…..

Lysol, Mr. Clean, anything like that you can use as long as your walls are painted with a latex paint, like semi gloss or glossy. it will come off with those cleaners and a little elbow grease. I would say your going to have to clean your furniture and carpets as well also.
