Is it ok to still use kerosene in a heater other than K1?

I have been using K1 but instead of paying $21.00 for 2.8gal at Wal-mart could I just use regular kerosene that I can get from the gas station.

      yes #1 fuel oil is ok. but diesel fuel is NOT.
