Why Won’t Kerosene Heater Relight After Refilling With Fuel?

Two kerosene heaters I have developed the same problem–I left them to burn and then they ran out of fuel. I added fuel back to them, and they just simply refuse to relight. You can relight them, but they don’t stay lit. One of them just started this ½ hour ago, and I’ve added fuel–it won’t stay lit. Another one had this happen some 3 weeks ago, I added fuel and to this day it STILL won’t stay relit. Is there a way around this without replacing the wick?
